Toojay's is a Florida chain that has won a number of "Best" awards as noted by the plaques hung within the restaurant . Did it deserve the status? I figured a Hot Pastrami sandwich at $8 would tell me.
Let's start with the good. The rye bread was fresh. The not so good: the pastrami. It was chewy, sinewy, cold, and lacked depth of flavor. It was by no means the worst I have had but for a deli touting itself as New York style, I expected significantly better.
One sandwich was not enough to judge a restaurant but one sandwich was enough for me to say it didn't win me over for a return visit.
