Sala Thai - Madison, WI

Sala Thai is a family owned restaurant located in a residential area.

We ordered Pad See Ew and Or Lam.

The Pad See Ew was very stingy in the noodle department.  The noodles lacked wok hay that I've become use to getting at some other Thai restaurants, rather tending to taste as if given a very quick perfunctory stir in the wok. The vegetable and meat ingredients were also bland. Ordering it mild probably didn't help in the flavor department.

The Or Lam is a Loatian dish consisting of if I recall correctly lamb or beef(?), galangal, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, long bean, mushroom, and ?  It's been awhile between dining and writing so I don't recall exactly but this dish had a distinctly Asian taste unlike the standard Chinese American flavors the American palate is accustomed to.  I enjoyed this dish.

The portions provided are on the small size and the costs are on the higher side.  The service is acceptable.  The decor is interesting.  I wanted to like this place but it just seemed if something was missing.
