Where's the best burger in Wisconsin? Monk's is a name that oft time comes up when the question arises. So we were off on our quest for another great burger.
Fried Cheese Curds. I'm not really enamored with fried cheese curds as they are too heavy for my taste but I read good things about these and entered a half order. These fried cheese curds were fantastic. They were delightfully light with just the right chew that doesn't snap back and they didn't feel greasy. These were a perfect fit for me. Enveloping them in the tomato dipping sauce was also a wonderful variation.
Original Monk Burger
This was a basic burger, the true test of the burger builder's mettle. It arrived medium well but was ordered medium. It would have been better medium or medium rare. Despite that the patty still was relatively moist, tender, and with a great sear char flavor and beefy taste. The cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes cost extra. Thumbs down to that!
- Bun:? basic white but non-squish, non-crumble bun that was perfect for the filling.
- Toppings: Cheese, lettuce, tomato, and raw onion. Provided an cool contrast to the hot patty.
- Cheese: American. Salty.
- Meat: 1/3 lb fresh Angus ground chuck.
- Price: $6.95? The cheese and toppings added a $1 to the cost
- Rating: 9.2.
Mushroom and Swiss Burger. I like Mushroom and Swiss burgers but usually need to be in the right frame to order one so I order it infrequently. With that said, this was also a great burger, probably the best Mushroom and Swiss burger I have had. Neither the Swiss cheese nor the mushrooms overpowered the patty but were served in a perfect proportion to make this a just right Mushroom and Swiss burger.
