Mike's Pastry - Boston, MA

Mike's Pastry is a tourist must stop where the lines are long, the service is fast, and the food lives up to the hype.

Mike's offers a wide assortment of cannoli.  We chose the Plain and the Amaretto.  The cannoli is made with ricotta cheese with its distinct grittiness.  The ricotta in this case was less gritty and smoother than usual. The filling was sweetened perfectly, none to sweet but just right.  The flaky shell provided a perfect textural crunch to balance the sweet filling.

Both were excellent.  The almonds on the Amaretto were fresh and crisp.  At $3.50 apiece, they were priced a little high but right for the quality and quantity.

So often I'm disappointed by the food at the tourist traps.  Mike's is one eatery that lives up to the hype.  This is one place that justifies "Leave the gun.  Take the cannoli."  I wish Mike's was in my neighborhood.
