Krispy Kreme Doughnuts - West Allis, WI

It's been ages since we had Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  I remember when they were popping up like rabbits everywhere and just as quicky seemed to disappear from the landscape. I never learned the true story behind it but Dr. Atkins and franchise costs were reasons I heard.

So with a Krispy Kreme just a turn into a parking lot away, we made for a dozen, ate a few along the way, and took the rest home.

The original glazed is the best.  It was cold and taking them home to microwave for 8 seconds brought back the magic gooey softness.  My only complaint is that they need to take the sweetness down a notch.

A chocolate top custard filled doughnut had perfect custard filling. The oddly sliced pumpkin cheesecake doughnut was pretty decent but there's no beating the original glazed for being one of man's perfect creation (minus a little sweetness).

Yup, we need more Krispy Kreme shops around. I miss the good old days.
