Southern Candymakers - New Orleans, LA

Southern Candymakers which has entrances on both Decatur St as well as N Peters St. claims the title of Best Pralines according to Bon Appetit magazine.

One thing Southern Candymaker pralines are not is they are not cheap at over $22 per pound.  At those prices, it better be better than lobster or a Porterhouse steak.

We bought a sampler with various flavors, original, peanut butter, coconut, and chocolate. Bon Appetit rated Southern Candymakers best but the pralines just didn't suit us. This was our first experience with pralines and we found them to be gritty as opposed to creamy, overwhelmingly sweet, and too rich for our taste.  I can't say if this batch was representative of pralines but if it is, we'll keep our money to spend on other foods in New Orleans.
