Madison is limited in Vietnamese restaurant selections unlike the Twin Cities with a de facto Little Saigon and abundant choices. In Madison, the dearth of competition means lower standards and higher prices. Alas the Twin Cities are 4 hours away.
Sometimes having a standard isn't so good because of the inevitable comparisons. Be that as it may, Saigon Noodles ranks very good in Madison but pick it up and drop it in the Twin Cities and it would rank in the middle of the pack.
Grilled Chicken Ga Nuong. The portions are small for the cost. Decent grilled chicken but not quite on par with the best.
Grilled Lemongrass Pork and Egg Roll Bun Heo Huong Cha Gao. Small egg rolls but great doused in nam pla.
Grilled Pork Banh Mi. Great roll with crunchy exterior and soft inside. The grilled pork was better than the chicken and it had the a balanced portioned pickled veggies. But there's one thing that ticked me off. Bahn Mi's are take out only, and they steadfastly prohibit dine in eating of the Bahn Mi even if you have a table, order one, and pay a commensurate gratuity.
Bottom Line: The food was decent enough but portions were small for the money. The restaurant was packed accompanied by a studied arrogance as if they are the only game in town, my way or the highway. Highway for me.
